Take Back the Night 2008 Print E-mail
Thursday, 20 March 2008

A Message from your Panhellenic Vice President of Risk Management, Monica Bandy:

Hi everyone! The Take Back the Night program taking place on April
17th at Upper Sproul starting at 5pm is an amazing program that I
encourage all Greeks to attend. Shattering the silence and stigma
surrounding sexual violence is extremely valuable to our community as
well as the greater campus. It will also be a chance to satisfy your
chapter Education Seminar requirement if 80% or more of your chapter
is in attendance. Please come out on April 17th and enjoy the program!

About Take Back the Night:

Break the Silence!
Speaking out about sexual violence is one of the most important steps in recovering. The Take Back the Night publication will feature numerous anonymous stories from survivors of sexual violence at Cal. This publication is designed for the empowerment of survivors of sexual violence and allows for the freedom to express your story without the social stigma normally attached to it. We invite you to share your story with us, whether you express it through poetry, short stories (limit 750 words), art, or photography. If you would like your story to be featured in this publication please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Feel free to create an anonymous e-mail account if you like; however, we will not publish your name unless you give us permission.

The Take Back the Night mission statement: We are Take Back the Night, a coalition of students, who aim to shatter the silence surrounding sexual violence, domestic violence, rape, and hate crimes. We aim to empower the survivors of violence by publicly speaking up against sexual violence through the work of art, poetry, and music as our medium. Take Back the Night is a safe space place for the survivors of violence, who wish to share their stories. We strive to empower all by asking those who wish and are ready to come forward and share their personal stories on Upper Sproul on April 17, 2008. The event also aims to inspire and empower the entire UC Berkeley community through that unity of all our voices and demand our campus to be free of all types of violence.
