MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Welcome!
My name is Madison Alexander and I am the Sigma Kappa
president for 2008. On behalf of my entire chapter, I would like to welcome you
to learn more about our sorority, our activities, and all the ideals we value
and uphold. We strongly encourage you to "Go Greek," as it is a great way to
become involved within the Cal community and to find a home within this large
and exciting university.
Sigma Kappa is composed of an eclectic group of intelligent,
active, compassionate, and well-rounded women who have formed irreplaceable friendships.
Since joining the sorority in fall 2005, I have made many fond memories with
these girls - whether it be road-tripping down to a Cal vs USC football game or
helping keep each other awake during a late night study session. Without these
women offering me advice and support, my transition from high school to UC
Berkeley would have been much more challenging.
As well as being strong academically, Sigma Kappa avidly
fundraises for our philanthropies. We annually hold a make-up event featuring
Bare Escentuals, in which we raised nearly $1,000 in April 2008. Many women
also volunteer in organizations such as the American Red Cross, Suitcase
Clinic, and Habitat for Humanity.

FAMOUS ALUMNI: Anna Harper (1931 Wimbledon tennis champion), Margaret Chase Smith (First U.S. Woman Senator to sit in both houses of Congress), Rhea Seddon (NASA Mission Specialist, aboard 1985 Space Shuttle Discovery)
CHAPTER HISTORY: The Lambda chapter was founded on the Berkeley campus in 1910 and has harbored proud members of the Cal campus for nearly 100 years. Built in 1936, our house was one of the first and few that was built specifically to be a sorority house. With its high ceilings, cottage-like roof, grassy courtyard, and large old-fashioned windows, it has definitely earned its reputation as the "Fairy Tale" house.
