CHAPTER
SUMMARY:
Gamma Phi Beta prides itself on the strength
of its sisterhood as well as the individual accomplishments of its sisters.
Through our various house activities we strive to create stronger bonds
of sisterhood and learn about each other, ourselves, and the world around
us. The chapter holds a house retreat every semester, during which the
sisters escape from Berkeley for the day to have fun and learn about
Gamma Phi traditions and their sisters. At the
annual Alumnae Brunch new members and old are introduced to Gamma
Phi Beta Alumnae from the Bay Area and reconnected with recent graduates.
Our annual philanthropy event, Mr. Gamma Phi,
raises funds for Campfire USA whose goal is connecting youth with camping
as a means of teaching kids how to work within a group, make friends,
build self-esteem and make good decisions. This past years Mr. Gamma
Phi raised over $8,000! Invitationals and other social events are a
chance for Gamma Phis and their friends to have
fun and network, meeting others in the Cal Greek and University communities.
In addition, Eta Chapter strives to promote academic excellence with
our scholarship plan and “smart cookie” programs, rewarding sisters
who achieve academically. From dancers to actresses, volunteers at the
suitcase clinic and pre-law fraternity members, Gamma
Phis are involved in many outside activities as well. If you are looking
for new friends, a place to give your time and effort and a warm and
welcoming home, Eta Chapter should be the place you look!

MESSAGE
FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Hello and welcome to Cal! One of the best ways to make your college
career memorable is to become a part of the Greek community. Gamma
Phi Beta has been an amazing experience for me and I'm so excited
to give you a glimpse of what our sorority is all about. Our chapter
has members from all over the world who are motivated, passionate,
sincere and outgoing.
Gamma Phis are involved in numerous clubs
and organization here at Cal and are dedicated to all the pillars
of Greek life: Friendship, Scholarship, Leadership and Service. From
tutors at the Student Learning Center to dancers in The Movement to
the second “mic-woman” in all of Cal’s history, Gamma
Phis are active in every part of college life.
But more significant than our involvement in outside activities are
the bonds of sisterhood each and every woman has formed here at Gamma
Phi. The relationships we have all made over the years are ones that
will last a lifetime. I fell in love with Gamma
Phi because the women I met were incredibly warm and welcoming. Cal
is a big and scary place but being a part of this organization has
helped me to find my family on this impersonal campus.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions
or comments! Thank you and GO BEARS!

CHAPTER HISTORY: Eta Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta
was established at Cal in 1894, just 20 years after it was originally
founded in Syracuse, New York. We were the first Gamma
Phi Beta Chapter west of the Mississippi. Our house, built on Channing
Way in the 1930s, was built especially for us, in the shape of a Gamma
by William Wurster, a prominent Bay Area architect and namesake of the
architecture building on campus. It was the first house built on what
is now “Frat Row” and we’re really happy to be an active part of this
dynamic atmosphere.
