Dear Potential New Members,

Welcome to Delta Gamma recruitment! We are extremely excited to be Co-Vice Presidents of Membership for the Gamma Chapter of Delta Gamma and would like to introduce ourselves. Our names are Sloane Ardis and Romi Jordan,and we are both sophomores at UC Berkeley. Please take the time to explore both this chapter profile and our chapter website (caldg.org) so that you can see all that Greek life and Delta Gamma has to offer. Formal recruitment will start in August of 2008, and we look forward to meeting and sharing our personal experiences with each and every one of you. We encourage every one to go through recruitment. Even if you feel that sorority life may not be for you, formal recruitment is an incredible experience and a great way to meet friends. Greek life at Cal has provided us with many exciting leadership opportunities, as well as lifelong friendships. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Hello and welcome to UC Berkeley’s Delta Gamma chapter webpage!

As chapter president of Delta Gamma, I am excited to invite you to explore our website. Although this website contains pictures, commentaries, and information on the activities at Gamma Chapter, it can only offer you a small glimpse into what it means to be a Delta Gamma. Delta Gamma offers women of all ages a rich heritage based upon principles of personal integrity, personal responsibility, and intellectual honesty. Our primary purpose is to foster high ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, create a true sense of social responsibility, and develop the finest qualities of character.

Being a DG at Cal has meant so much to my fellow sisters and me. Delta Gamma is a place where you are welcomed and encouraged to become involved. From philanthropy events and community service, to academic enrichment programs and intramural sports, to sisterhood activities and social events, DG’s do it all! The inviting environment within our house has become an outlet for our members in friendship, fun, scholarship, leadership, and an all-encompassing commitment to excellence.

I cannot imagine my Cal experience without the enriching opportunities provided by the women of Delta Gamma. Since I joined DG three years ago, I have developed irreplaceable friendships and discovered a network that extends far beyond UC Berkeley and my college contemporaries. I am so proud and honored to be a part of this chapter and the ideals we represent. CHAPTER HISTORY: Delta Gamma was one of the first sororities on the UC Berkeley campus over one hundred years ago. Since that time, Gamma Chapter has continued to maintain a strong presence both on campus and within the community. In the early 1900's, the University of California, Berkeley was still in its early stages of development. There were no dormitories and few organizations. The Pie del Monte Club was formed in 1900 and was situated on Piedmont Avenue, below Memorial Stadium. In January 1906, this women's organization petitioned for a charter from Delta Gamma Fraternity, and in April of 1907, the charter was granted. The chapter was warmly accepted on campus, and as the chapter increased its membership, the need arose for a larger residence. In fall of 1913, construction began on a new chapter house. The three-story, brown shingled home on Channing Way was finished in May of 1914. In August of 1915, the nineteenth Delta Gamma Fraternity Convention was held in Berkeley, hosted by Beta and Gamma Chapters.
