Chapter Philanthropy: F.U.T.U.R.O. (Focused Urban Teens United and Ready for Opportunity): Lambda Theta Alpha prides itself on its strong ethic for community service and philanthropic programming. The F.U.T.U.R.O. program is representative of the organization's focus on the future of our youth and the opportunities for their progress and growth. An outreach initiative for young teens, F.U.T.U.R.O. is designed to lead our youth to new horizons through educational workshops, character-building activities, and one-on-one mentoring. Mentors from our organization are asked to meet with middle/high school students twice a month to provide several workshops dealing with the issues that affect teens today. Among them may be The Importance of Self-Esteem, A College Life Experience, Prepping-Up- for a College Interview, Cultural Pride and Awareness, and Giving Back To Your Community, to name a few. The students are encouraged to become involved in their local communities in an effort to teach them that they, too, can make a difference. By empowering the young generation, we are securing their future as leaders in our community. This program cultivates personal and academic growth, and it provides its participants with social and communication skills necessary to succeed in life. Lambda Theta Alpha feels it is imperative that we acknowledge, guide, and support our FUTURO.

Chapter History: Initially, Dora Maria Silva realized the need of a support group that would foster intellectual development and leadership among strong Latina women. After coming across Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated, by researching through the internet and talking to other cultural Greek members, she at last found an organization that fit her vision of a support network of universal women and immediately began contacting local sisters and the National Director of Expansion. Beginning the Interest group for Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was not easy and many women came, went and contributed to the group after and before it was established and officially recognized by the campus on November 2004. Only sixteen ladies that shared the goals and principles of Lambda Theta Alpha remained out of the interest group, Helen Aguirre, Diana Arellano, Martha Avila, Angelica Ayala, Vanessa Diaz, Ximena Egoavil, Mayra Galvan, Wendy Lazo, Corin Medrano, Sabrina Nava, Anabel Paez, Patricia Quiroz, Casandra Salgado, Dora Maria Silva, Isabel Tovar, and Diane Zuniga. In the Spring of 2007 our sisterhood on this campus was established when these ladies became Delta Omicron Chapter’s Founding Line. In the Spring of 2008 our sisterhood continues to grow with the crossing of our Line One; Mitzi Iniguez, Lisbeth Mora, Kay Contreras, Adriana Trenado, Remedios Barrera, Margarita Landeros, Paloma Chavez, Angelica Morales, Jacqueline Mendoza, and Teresa Marie Granados. Now in the Spring of 2009 we welcome our new line, Line 2: Evlyn Andrade, Lupe Perez, Rosa Rico, Erika Sanchez, Deisy Ramirez, Joanna Morales, and Liz Solorio. Hopefully with the addition of these ladies our sisterhood, that we fought to establish for three years, will flourish and continue to offer much needed services to our University of California, Berkeley community.
