Chapter Summary/Information: Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is a Latino interest fraternity established on December 3, 1987 at California State University at Chico. We are proud to be the First Latino Interest Fraternity on the West Coast and for two decades, we have become a vehicle for creating the Latino Leaders of tomorrow and as an instrument for promoting the development of Latino males in higher education. Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was established at the University of California, Berkeley on September 19, 1992 as the fraternity's third chapter and is one of 16 chapters nationally. We currently have chapters at public and private four-year institutions all over California and Arizona. The organization's three founding principles are Academic Excellence, Community Service and the Maintenance of the Latino culture through brotherhood. Realizing the importance of Academic Excellence, we are a fraternity that emphasizes academic programs that aid in the retention, guidance and overall development of students in higher education so that they may enter the work force with the experience necessary to succeed. Bound by a common goal, our fraternity also comes together to serve our local communities, and we welcome anyone with the desire and the passion to provide help to those in need. For each of its members, Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. also serves as a family away from home. There are many Latino students that feel disconnected in the university environment, especially those living far away from home. Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. feels that is much easier and beneficial to deal with the burdens and trials of college-life with the support of a familiar environment. That is why we are there for each other, regardless of our heritage, supporting one another in our academic, social and work environments.

Chapter History: The Gamma Chapter of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded at the University of California on September 19, 1992. The main objective of the Gamma Chapter, and the fraternity overall, is to ensure that all brothers graduate and "reach the top of the pyramid" through the mutual support provided by fellow brothers. Since 1992, 90% of our membership has completed their undergraduate careers and have entered the work force in careers such as accounting, law, public administration, computer engineering, architecture and education. Many more have continued their pursuit in higher education by participating in prestigious graduate programs at UC Berkeley, USC, UCLA, Harvard and Columbia. In accomplishing Gamma Zeta Alpha's commitment to community service, the Gammas at Berkeley have demonstrated this in various activities that we have participated and supported. These activities include: Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society by raising over $1,000, our annual participation in activities such as Stiles Hall Haunted House, "Kindercaminata", the "We're Going To Cal" football outing, Raza Day, Raza Transfer Day and annual Cancer Walk in San Francisco.
