Chapter Summary/Information: Delta Gamma offers to women of all ages a rich heritage; continuity based on sound and tested principles of personal integrity, personal responsibility, and intellectual honesty. Delta Gamma's primary purpose is to create an environment for its members in which lasting friendships are established and in which members find the processes, the experiences and the disciplines which will stimulate clear thought. Its aim is to foster an atmosphere in which women will develop a deeper love and consideration for mankind, a more profound understanding of the purpose of life, and a basic wisdom upon which to build their lives. Delta Gamma's purpose is accomplished through planned collegiate and alumnae programs. These programs provide intellectual motivation, the opportunity for graciousness in daily living, and community awareness which enrich the lives of members and instill in them a respect for the enduring values to be gained from the Fraternity. Some of Delta Gamma's accomplishments include: Winner, Frankie Ladley Parnassus Award for outstanding scholarship (3.54 GPA), innovative programming, timeliness in reporting, and philanthropic donations. Winner, Patricia Peterson Danielson Award (2008). Highest GPA (spring 2006, fall 2006, fall 2007). Order of Omega Highest GPA Award (spring 2006, fall 2006, fall 2007). Message from the President: As president of the UC Berkeley chapter of Delta Gamma, I invite you to explore our website. Through our photo gallery, events calendar, and scholarship and philanthropy facts, you get a glimpse into what Delta Gamma life is all about at Cal. Our chapter has been a presence on the Cal campus for over 100 years, and thousands of women have lived the principles of Delta Gamma and shared them with the Berkeley community. Delta Gamma offers women of all ages a rich heritage based upon the ideals of personal integrity, philanthropy, intellectual honesty, and above all, Doing Good. Our primary purpose is to foster ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, create a true sense of social responsibility, and develop the finest qualities of character. Gamma Chapter has a tradition of excellence. In 2006, we were awarded first runner-up for the Frankie Ladley Wakefield Parnassus Award, which recognizes Delta Gamma chapters for outstanding scholarship, programming, and philanthropy. In the 2007-08 school year, our chapter earned a cumulative GPA average of 3.54, ranking us not only as the highest academic performance in the Cal National Panhellenic Council community, but also in Delta Gamma nationally. At the 2008 Delta Gamma Convention, Gamma chapter gave over $17,000 to endow a lectureship in leadership and ethics, to serve our philanthropic mission of aid to the visually impaired, and to fund a second Delta Gamma Foundation Chapter Scholarship. In the course of the school year, our chapter gives over one thousand hours in service to the visually impaired through Delta Gamma’s philanthropic program, Service for Sight. Yet, our academic and philanthropic achievements fail to demonstrate completely what being a Cal DG is about. Through our membership, we have all made close and lasting friendships, gained a widespread support system, and found a second home. DG offers a study buddy, a brunch companion to laugh with over the night before, and a friend to go on any adventure. As DGs, we applaud each other’s successes, and help each other through individual struggles. Our chapter is made up of women of diverse individual talents, goals and achievements brought together by a commitment to unwavering and unconditional friendship. I am proud to be part of this chapter of women who inspire me on a daily basis and enrich my life with their humor, support, and intelligence. I encourage you to explore our chapter’s website and Delta Gamma’s national website, deltagamma.org, to see all that DG has to offer its members through their college years and beyond. Please contact me or any of our officers at any time with questions or comments. ITB, Katherine Ma katherine.ma00@gmail.com

Chapter History: Delta Gamma was one of the first sororities on the UC Berkeley campus over one hundred years ago. Since that time, Gamma Chapter has continued to maintain a strong presence both on campus and within the community. In the early 1900's, the University of California, Berkeley was still in its early stages of development. There were no dormitories and few organizations. The Pie del Monte Club was formed in 1900 and was situated on Piedmont Avenue, below Memorial Stadium. In January 1906, this women's organization petitioned for a charter from Delta Gamma Fraternity, and in April of 1907, the charter was granted. The chapter was warmly accepted on campus, and as the chapter increased its membership, the need arose for a larger residence. In fall of 1913, construction began on a new chapter house. The three-story, brown shingled home on Channing Way was finished in May of 1914. In August of 1915, the nineteenth Delta Gamma Fraternity Convention was held in Berkeley, hosted by Beta and Gamma Chapters.
