Chapter Summary/Information: For over 160 years Chi Psi has dedicated itself to the cultivation of an elevated and refined friendship. Simultaneously, Chi Psi strives to foster education and responsibility while providing a unique opportunity on the thirty-two colleges and universities. With original leadership and scholarship programs, committed alumni volunteers, and financial resources, Chi Psi can look back at what it has accomplished with pride. The leadership of Chi Psi also looks to the future and knows with confidence that Chi Psi will succeed in the challenges facing it, and remain one of America's premier fraternities.
Message from the President: Chi Psi is a private fraternity of gentlemen devoted to the personal and collective needs of its members. A selective association of diverse individuals, Chi Psi is dedicated to the cultivation of a unique environment which instills a lifelong commitment to brotherhood. The mission of the Chi Psi Fraternity is to create and maintain an enduring society which encourages the sharing of traditions and values, respect for oneself and others, and responsibility to the university and community.
Chapter Philanthropy: Stuff the Bus: We work with the Alameda County Food Bank every spring semester in a food drive at local supermarkets.
Chapter History: Chi Psi at UC Berkeley boasts a beautiful home designed by renowned architect Julia Morgan. The Delta Delta Lodge has stood for generations at the intersection of Piedmont Ave. and Durant Ave. Unique to Chi Psi, the undergraduate brothers don't live in "a house"...we live in "the Lodge". The reason for this lies in our history. The Brothers of Alpha Epsilon at the University of Michigan built the first fraternity house in America in 1845. Because the university administration was opposed to secret societies, the Brothers had to conceal themselves and their new home. To do this, they constructed a log cabin in the woods surrounding the campus. That log cabin resembled a hunting lodge, and so thereafter every Chi Psi home was referred to as a “Lodge.” Amenities at the Berkeley Lodge include a full sand volleyball court, a parking garage, a basketball court, pool and foosball tables, a full-service kitchen, a library, and a washer and dryer. Our meal plan includes ten meals per week. The majority of our Brothers choose to live in the Lodge after their first year at Cal and until they graduate.
