Chapter Summary/Information: Alpha Phi International Fraternity is a membership organization dedicated to promoting sisterhood, cultivating leadership, encouraging intellectual curiosity and advocating service. With 152 active chapters in the US and Canada, and over 200,000 members, Alpha Phi develops character for a lifetime. The women of Lambda Chapter strive to embody these ideals of sisterhood, scholarship, service, leadership, and loyalty in all aspects of their collegiate career. In addition to being dedicated members of the chapter, we have women who participate and hold leadership positions in many other organizations on campus, including the SAGE Mentorship Project, Professional fraternities, intramural sports, Order of Omega Honor Society, ASUC student staff, and countless others. Alpha Phi, Lambda Chapter also prides itself on its participation in Greek philanthropy events, including Pi Phi Arrowbands, Sigma Chi Derby Days, and Greek Week, in which our team placed first. We are also incredibly proud of our own philanthropy event, the Red Dress Gala and Silent Auction, which raised over $5,000 dollars for the Alpha Phi Foundation to promote cardiac care and research. The opportunities afforded by Alpha Phi are wide-ranging and invaluable. Our large alumnae network spans from psychologists and professors to congressional staff. The women of Lambda are unique, but our sisterhood unites us all. At Lambda, you will find loyal friends for life and an unforgettable college experience.
Message from the President: Welcome to UC Berkeley! Even as someone from a large high school, coming to Cal made me feel like a small fish in a very, very big pond. However, all of this changed the moment I stepped into Alpha Phi’s beautiful chapter house on Bancroft Steps. From the very first moment I felt welcome and right at home. The women of this chapter are intelligent, involved, compassionate, enthusiastic, hilarious and so much fun to be around. It was like finding a long lost friend, except that there were 127 of them. In Alpha Phi, especially Lambda Chapter, you will find like-minded women who will push you to achieve your best academically and personally. Through Alpha Phi, I have grown as a leader, a friend, a student, and as a person. For these reasons, I encourage everyone to Go Greek! The opportunities are endless, and the friends you make will be with you always. You won’t regret your decision! To learn more about our sisterhood, check out our website: www.calalphaphi.com. Please don't hesitate to contact me or our Vice President of Membership with any questions you may have. Go Bears! Kristen Dodenhoff, President
Annual Events: Two Invitationals per semester, Exchanges (social events), Fall Date Party, Ace of Clubs Ball, Semesterly Scholarship Dinners, Overnight Sisterhood Retreats, Greek Week, Red Dress Gala and Silent Auction, as well as Cardiac Care Week, two annual events that support our philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation.
Chapter Philanthropy: Alpha Phi Foundation. Alpha Phi Foundation, founded in 1956, is one of the oldest Greek foundations for women. It was set up as a trust – its purpose was to award grants from scholarship and cardiac aid funds. Today, two original priorities remain: to encourage and recognize superior scholarship and to support women’s cardiac health. The Foundation also funds programs that provide leadership and educational opportunities, educate women about philanthropy and assist members in need.
Chapter History: The Lambda Chapter at UC Berkeley is part of a proud lineage of Alpha Phis that began back in 1872 at Syracuse University in New York when 10 pioneering young women sought not only higher education, but also friendship from their collegiate careers. More than 100 years later, we here at Lambda and at every other chapter strive to keep this tradition alive. We do so not only in our own pursuit of friendships within Alpha Phi, but also through our tireless efforts to give back to our community. Since 1956 these efforts have been strengthened with the formation of the Alpha Phi Foundation, one of the oldest Greek foundations for women that serves not only to support women’s cardiac health and related research, but also to promote leadership, provide educational opportunities, recognize scholastic achievements and assist members in need.
